Seamount: IV - Earthmother

11/12/12  ||  gk

Fourth album from this German hard rock band with Phil Swanson (Vestal Claret, Hour of 13) on vocals and it’s basically more of the same. “IV: Earthmother” is bland hard rock with a doomy atmosphere and Swanson does his usual faux Ozzy vocals. The previous album had a couple of really catchy songs but this new one has nothing of interest. It’s all competently played and recorded but with four albums in about 5 years of existence, Seamount has started to sound a bit self-plagiarizing. Too many of the songs here sound like rehashed versions of songs found on their earlier albums. There’s probably an audience for this somewhere but I’m getting a bit tired of Seamount and their formula for sleep.

4/10: Competent but totally boring hard rock that wants to be doom metal.
